Just before Rosh Hashana 2022/5783, several neighborhoods in Ann Arbor were targeted with antisemitic fliers.
Federation’s Executive Director Eileen Freed was interviewed on CBS Detroit regarding the incident, as was Ann Arbor Mayor Christopher Taylor.
A clip of Mayor Taylor’s statement was featured in the news story. Here is his full statement:
The midnight distribution of hate flyers last weekend, on the cusp of Rosh Hashanah, shows once again that the individual and cultural pathology of antisemitism runs deep and dark. Ann Arbor condemns antisemitism in all its forms. We affirm the strength and light of Ann Arbor’s Jewish community.
These flyers came from an out-of-town group to intimidate and divide. They will fail. We know, however, that we are not free from antisemitism here at home. Even here, we have work to do. We must, all of us, work to support congregations and individuals targeted by hate, work to ensure that Ann Arbor’s Jews know that they belong — that they are an inextricable part of us.
We in Ann Arbor truly thrive when we live, work, learn, and love together with reciprocal respect, admiration, and joy. It is the only way.
