As we await further information, the Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor stands in solidarity with our family and friends in Israel in this time of heightened tension and threat.
We pray for the safety, strength and well-being of everyone in Israel.
There are likely many questions about last night’s action against Iran’s nuclear program.
You are invited to a special 30-minute briefing from Jewish Federations of North America on the situation in Israel today from 1:00–1:30 PM ET.
Register for today’s 1pm briefing
We encourage you to reach out to family, friends, and colleagues who are in Israel, and to Israelis here in the Ann Arbor area. Your expressions of concern and caring give them comfort in this disconcerting and scary time.
Our Community Security Director, Shane Dennis, and his supporting organization Jewish Community Services, Inc (JSCI), in coordination with local, state and federal law enforcement partners, are monitoring the situation closely. At this time, their private sector security partners assess that the likelihood of Iranian or Hezbollah-directed retaliation targeting Jewish communities in the United States remains low. However, as with all developments of this nature, and with the recent attacks in Washington DC and Boulder, CO, we remain vigilant.
What We Are Doing
- Shane and JCSI are maintaining direct lines of communication with regional and national Jewish security partners along with our law enforcement partners.
- Requested extra police patrols for our local Jewish organizations and congregations.
- Shared updated security information with our local private security partners/contractors.
- Monitoring and notifying law enforcement about known community and public events and requesting extra patrols and attention.
- Through our partnership with JCSI, we continue to monitor social media for information about potential threats.
- For this weekend’s Jewish Community Meet Up at Top of the Park, we will have security provided
What you can do
- Remain vigilant. If you see something, say something—our safety depends on all of us being alert and informed. You can report antisemitic incidents on our website here.
- Live proud, visible, and active Jewish lives. Celebrate Shabbat (there are several great programs at our local synagogues this week). Show up for the Community Meet Up at TOP. Our community offers a wide range of opportunities to embrace Jewish life and invests significantly in your safety and security. Join us in being together in community.
May we all know peaceful days ahead.
