Two families sit together, each reading a letter from a pen pal, each on opposite sides of the globe – both under the same moon. The families discuss the note, write their own reply, stuff it into an envelope, and look forward to a reply.
Will the return letter be about how their pen pals celebrate holidays? Or maybe about their hobbies or their community? It’s always a glimpse into a different, yet familiar culture. And it’s done together, as a family, alongside a real family In Israel.
The Ann Arbor area community is invited to join a special pen pal program with Israeli families from Moshav Nahalal, Ann Arbor’s partnership community. This ShinShinim-run program combines a monthly gathering for elementary-aged children with quality family time dedicated at home to reading and writing letters together.
This program is made possible by the Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor, who will take care of all the logistics and provide participating children with fun and meaningful activities related to a new topic each month.
