Zelma Weisfeld Fund for Culture & Education 

Purpose

The Zelma Weisfeld Fund for Culture & Education was established by the estate of Ms. Weisfeld to support Jewish cultural and educational programming. Applications must be specifically for Jewish cultural or educational programs.

 

Amount Available

Grant requests of up to $1500 will be considered.

 

Deadline

Zelma Weisfeld Fund for Arts & Culture is awarded once per year.  

Letters of Intent Due by January 1st 

RFP Due by January 15th 

Award Notification by March 1st  

Application Requirements

Eligibility

  • Proposals must center around cultural or educational programs and cultivate a strong, engaged, connected, caring, vibrant and enduring Jewish community in Washtenaw County.  
  • Applications must be made by a formal or informal partnership of at least three collaborators. Collaborators may be individuals, organizations, groups or a combination.  
  • Applications must be for projects that are consistent with the mission of the Federation. 
  • Proposals should be for one-time programs. If the program is intended to continue beyond an initial funding cycle, applicants should explain their plans for financial sustainability.  
  • Funds may not be used for any other program or for other organizational operating expenses without prior approval from the grant selection committee or its designee.  

Grant expectations

  • Following award of a grant, any changes to the approved program beyond what has been described in the grant application must be approved by the grant administrator. 
  • Grant recipients will be expected to submit a post event write-up and photos within 30 days of program completion. 
  • Programs must be completed within 6 months of award notification. Without communication with and approval from administrator, funds not used within that time frame could be revoked.  
  • Grant recipients must acknowledge the Federation and the specific fund from which they received support in all publicity surrounding the program funded by this initiative. A logo will be provided for use on fliers and other publicity. 
  • Funds will be distributed based on paid receipts submitted up to the limit of the grant. If other arrangements are required, please contact grant administration for approval.

Determination of Awards

  • A volunteer committee will evaluate proposals received; the Allocations Committee C-Chair will act as committee chair. 
  • Applicants must demonstrate in the grant application how they will measure impact and success. 
  • The grant selection committee will evaluate proposals according to the extent to which they adhere to the guiding principles of culture & education. 
  • For programs that are intended to extend beyond the funding period of the grant, the applicants must demonstrate in the grant application how the program will be sustainable financially following the end of the grant period. 
  • Preference will be given to new ideas and one-time programs. If applying for an existing program, please contact the committee before submitting the grant application to determine if the project will be considered.
