SUMMARY:EMU CJS: Elan Golod\, Screening of Nathan-ism
DESCRIPTION:“Filmmaker Elan Golod proposes a documentary portrait of the aging artist but what begins as a peek at a unique witness to history grows into an absorbing study of the function of art as archive and invention. Daring to question an artist’s stories\, “Nathan-ism” is a fascinating look at one man’s need to share truths with a world that doesn’t always want to listen.” (From “Nathan-ism” website (https://www.nathan-ism.com/)

SUMMARY:A (post) Hanukkah Celebration: Doni Zasloff and Eric Lindberg\, “Jews\, Bluegrass\, and Other 'American' Musics"
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, December 8 at 7:00 PM \nLive in the EMU Student Center Auditorium \nand on Zoom at: tinyurl.com/nefeshmountain \nAccording to Rolling Stone\, Doni Zasloff and Eric Lindberg’s bluegrass ensemble\, Nefesh Mountain offers “a master class in string music . . . preach[ing] peace\, understanding\, and acceptance with musical muscle.” Among the first to capture Jewish American culture in the world of American roots music\, Zasloff and Lindberg brilliantly blend Appalachian bluegrass\, Celtic folk\, and Eastern European traditions. But what is at stake in such a synthesis? Is Nefesh Mountain the dawn of a new American sound? Come join the EMU Center for Jewish Studies for a joyous evening of talk and music! \nAdmission is free and open to all for both the live presentation/performance and the Zoom (but you MUST register to attend the Zoom!). \nThis presentation/performance is co-sponsored by Hillel at Eastern Michigan University\, the EMU School of Music and Dance\, the Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor\, and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation. The Center would also like to offer a very special thank you to sponsors Harlene and Henry Appelman.
