Meet Federation Legacy Society Donors Bernie & Barb Banet

We have made a LIFE & LEGACY® commitment to three organizations that have provided us with a rich secular Jewish community life and that we feel will help to transmit and embody Jewish values and identity l’dor v’ dor. These organizations are the Jewish Cultural Society, the Jewish Community Center, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor.

When our son was eight years old, we were able to find a joyful connection to the Jewish Cultural Society. JCS provided a Sunday school and meaningful secular bar mitzvah experience for our son and gave us many friends over the years. Our JCS membership connected us with the Jewish Community Center because the JCC came to provide a home for JCS. We saw the JCC grow from a small building on Stadium to the much larger facility that it is today. JCC offerings, such as the Jewish Film Festival and Jewish Book Festival, bring our community together. Our JCC involvement connected us with Federation. We learned about Federation’s community building efforts here and the good work locally, in Israel, and around the world enabled by the tzedakah that Federation invites.

We want the Jewish community to continue to thrive and importantly to continue to be able to be inclusive and pluralistic. That is what has motivated us to make our legacy commitments through the LIFE & LEGACY program.
