Ukraine has the 5th largest Jewish community in the world with more than 300,000 Jews. The conflict with Russia over Crimea has put the delivery of services, especially for the elderly, at risk. It is unclear whether Jews will be targeted as a group. Emergency services are being put in place by JDC, JAFI and ORT. Funding will be needed to support this special effort.

What is BDS?

The first anti-Israel boycott of Zionist goods produced in Mandatory Palestine was announced by the Arab League on December 2, 1945, long before Israel was established. It was broadened in 1948 to include all companies that do business with Israel until the US Congress made it illegal for any American company to cooperate with the boycott in 1976. The objective was to turn Israel into an international pariah long before the issues it purports to fight today came about as a result of the Six Day War in 1967.      Learn more
